I began to learn the craft of Masonry by observing and helping my grandfather, Salvatore Mauriello, build masonry structures on his property in Grafton.
I was just a young boy watching in wonder as he with precision and finesse built master pieces that only a Master could do. To him, Masonry was an art form and it was one that was worthy to learn and master.
I remember riding in my grandfather’s truck thru out the city of Troy as he would point out buildings and structures that he helped.to create in his younger days as Union Mason. I was in awe of the talent my grandfather possessed.
By studying his life not only did I inherit the eye for Masonry, I also learned about a valuable work ethic. Not only was my grandfather a Union Mason from 7 to 230, he also had a 2nd full-time job as a Troy Police Officer from 3pm to 11pm. He pursued both of these careers for over two decades to make sure that his young family had their needs met.
My grandfather taught me how to hold a rifle and how to bait a hook. By far the greatest man I have ever met. Whenever someone was in need, Salvatore, which his name means Savior, was there to help.
Thank you “Pop” for helping me become the man that I am today. Until we meet again. RIP Salvatore Anthony Mauriello
